DWI Education & Treatment Services
In addition to DWI substance use assessments, D&A Assessment Services provides state-approved education and outpatient treatment services for individuals with DWI convictions in North Carolina.
Based on the results of your assessment, you may be referred to one of the following services:
Alcohol & Drug Education Traffic School (ADETS)
ADETS is a 16-hour educational program designed for first-time offenders who do not meet criteria for substance use treatment but are required to complete education as part of their DWI requirements. This program focuses on understanding substance use, impaired driving laws, and strategies to prevent future impaired driving.
Short-Term Outpatient Treatment
Short-term outpatient services offer a structured, supportive environment focused on education, insight, and practical skill-building. This level of care is designed to help individuals meet DWI requirements while continuing to manage work, family, and daily responsibilities.
Groups are offered multiple times per week, with both morning and evening options, allowing participants to choose a schedule that best fits their lives. The goal is to provide the least restrictive level of care while still meeting all state requirements and supporting positive, lasting change.
Long-Term Outpatient Treatment
Long-term outpatient treatment provides extended support and clinical guidance for individuals who benefit from additional time and structure. This option allows participants to engage in ongoing group services that focus on accountability, education, and long-term planning.
To support consistency and accessibility, long-term outpatient groups are also offered multiple times per week, with morning and evening sessions available. This flexible scheduling helps clients remain engaged in treatment while maintaining employment, family responsibilities, and other life commitments.
